Pirates of the Caribbean 3.. bad?
Watched the much anticipated 3rd part of the Pirates series at Johor recently, and as my last post suggested, it didn’t live up to the hype. Or at least this is my opinion. I’m not a die-hard Jack Sparrow fan but i liked the previous 2 movies enough to say that they were good so I was seriously looking forward to the last one. At World’s End.

Jack Sparrow
The trailer was awesome, the posters were cool, but the movie was mediocre if not for the dramatic final fight between The Flying Dutchman, The Black Pearl and the Navy. It was like a meal that had amazing appetizers and side dishes but Maggi noodles as the main course. I watched the movie together with a few of my friends and none of us actually walked out the cinema satisfied!

Barbossa, Turner, Sparrow, Swan, Sao-Feng
In the past 2 movies, highlights were usually awesome sword fighting scenes, beautiful seas and scenery and the occasional tinge of humor at the right time. But this disappointing 3rd entry of the Pirates series was nonsense! The illustration of Davy Jones Locker didn’t make sense, the dramatic end of Jack getting eaten up by the Kraken in the 2nd movie didn’t connect to the scenes in the 3rd where he’s stranded on a place looking very much alive hallucinating and giving orders to himself on his ship. I’m sure there must be a better way to do that scene. Why? Did the world run out of imagination or something?
I actually nearly fell asleep through the middle of the movie!! The way Calypso was portrayed reminded me of children cartoons. Gigantic goddess suddenly exploding into a bunch of crabs just doesn’t make sense to me. Somehow in my opinion, the plot got too serious for the cast. The story is about the East Indian Company ruling the seas because they have Davy Jones’ heart and the Pirate Lords seeking to defend themselves through the Brethren Court.

PARLAY!!
And why did the make Elizabeth Pirate King?!?! It was so anti-climax. And to be honest she didn’t play that part well. It was like a cat trying to be a dinosaur or something. Heck, I would rather Barbossa take that role.
So in the end the Pirate Lords did nothing but squabble among themselves and got rid of a bunch of junk to free Calypso which caused a whirlpool and bla bla, fight fight, the end…. For a movie that was supposedly to be on par with the awesome Lord of the Rings, Spiderman, Matrix, or even Harry Potter, it was disappointing.
I would rather watch this movie.

Don’t watch Norbit either. I’m skipping Pirates and Shrek. Go watch BLADES OF GLORY when you get the chance…
lalala…pirates 3 was ok la…but dun ever ever watch shrek 3 la..i slept for like an hour…chin wei said tat i was even snoring k..hyper boring..sien..burned my RM10 la…damn
i actually liked Pirates O.T.C…good stuff i figured…they also previewed transformers…looked really good…i mean REALLY…gotta catch dat 1
The movie was awsome, atleast I think so. Anyway, the end was a little bit sad. Why couldn’t Elizabeth come with Will on his ship? And how is she going to live on that island? and my last question; do they ever meet again? This was things I was thinking of all the day long after watching it. Hope I’ll get an answer, I really hope so, even I doubt it.
I agree on the calypso part, yet, the trama of the movie left me satisfied. It has so many turns with every character which mantains an interest in the movie. And the fact that calypso turned into a bunch of crabs was because she has the same powers as the greek god Circe of tranforming. The whirlpool was only to call Davy Jones, in other words to kill him. The fact that Elizabeth was given the role of pirate king was because she was used by Jack to accomplish his purposes, Jack didn’t want to fight, but his negotiations with Becket (which later on turn to fail) stated that he had to make every pirate leave the ship wreck city. He used Elizabeth because she was the only one who was dumb enough to try to fight. Nevertheless, as negotiations turned out bad for Jack, he had no choice left but to fihgt, which he never intended. This movie even has soem historic facts, such as the mistress Ching, or Cheng I Sao, was a true character in the pirate history. The thing is, the movie is good, the script is good, the acting is good, the trama is good, the scenes and music, good. Now, Colverfield is a bad movie.
